Jeffrey
Lynn Goldblum was born in Pittsburgh, PA on 22 October
1952. He is the third son of Harold and Shirley
Goldblum. His father was a doctor, his mother a radio
broadcaster. Jeff has two older brothers, Rick and Lee,
and a sister called Pamela. They were an upper-middle
class family living outside of Pittsburgh. Jeff's
brother Rick died at the age of 23 while travelling in
Morocco (Jeff was 19 by that time). Jeff's sister is an
artist living in LA.
At
the age of 17 he left for New York to become an actor.
He got his first role in the Broadway hit "The Two
Gentlemen of Verona". After that came his first
film role in "Death Wish" (1974). He went on
to play in two films directed by Robert Altman,
"California Split" and "Nashville".
Thus began Jeff Goldblum's film career.
In
the 70's he had some smaller parts in movies such as
"Annie Hall" or "Thank God, It's
Friday".
His
role in "The Fly" (1985) made him a star world
wide. During the production of the movie he fell in love
with his co-star Geena Davis. They married in 1987, but
split up again in 1990 (in the early 80's Jeff was
married to actress Patricia Gaul).
Goldblum
co-founded the acting school "Playhouse West"
in 1982 with Robert Carnegie, who also studied with
Sanford Meissner in New York.
Aside
from his blockbuster hits (Jurassic Park, Independence
Day, The Lost World) Jeff played in some independent and
foreign films in the 1990's, e.g. "Lush Life",
"Mad Monkey" or "The Favour, The Watch
And The Very Big Fish".
Between
1992 and 1997 he was engaged to Laura Dern.
In
1999/2000 Jeff worked on a lot of new films
like "Chain of Fools" with Salma Hayek or
"Like Cats and Dogs" where he played a
scientist again. In 2005 he was in "Life Aquactic with Steve Zissou". From April all through September 2005
he also played in the Broadway hit "The Pillowman". After a few smaller parts in 2006 (e.g. "Fay Grim", "Man of the Year") he returned to TV to play the role of detective "Raines". The show
was cancelled - however, Jeff will play another detective in "CSI:Law and Order" in late 2008, replacing actor Chris Noth.
His next big film will be "Adam Resurrected".
Goldblum
teaches acting when he's not working, and he loves
playing piano. He's also into art and sports. In his
free time he likes to read and work out in the gym.
